V týdnu od 16. do 20. 10. navštíví oddělení finských studií ÚGS v rámci programu Erasmus+ Sirkku Latomaa z Fakulty informačních technologií a komunikace Univerzity v Tampere.

V pondělí 16. 10. od 17:30 zveme všechny zájemce na její přednášku v angličtině na aktuální téma využití strojového překladu (místnost P319).

Machine translation, a helpful tool or a threat for the human translator?

During the past few decades, the translation industry has encountered numerous technological advances: CAT tools, translation memories and machine translation (MT). In my lecture, I will present a brief outline of the history of MT and discuss the extent to which professional translators currently use MT. I will then illustrate the conditions under which MT engines work well and the limitations they still face. Finally, I will consider the question whether it is likely that human translators will become an endangered species and whether MT will replace them one day.

Další část kurzu S. Latomaa proběhne ve čtvrtek 19. 10. ve finštině na praktických ukázkách práce s různými překladači a jinými nástroji, editováním textu apod.
